Abstract
In order to investigate the effect of bloodletting on the gout induced by microcrystalline sodium urate in rats. bloodletting were treated on bilateral Pal-pung, Hyeon-jong(G 39 or XI39), and complex of Pal-pung and Hyeon-jong.
And then metatarsophalangeal joint swelling, erythrocyte segmentation rate and white blood cell count were measured and serum uric acid, serum creatinine were studied.
The groups were divided into control group. bloodletting group.
The results were obtained as follows.
1. Metatarsophalangeal joint swelling was decreased in the groups of complex of Pal-pung and Hyeon-jong, Pal-pung, and Hyeon-jong respectively compared with those of control group.
2. Erythrocyte segmentation rate was decreased most significantly in the groups of complex of Pal-pung and Hyeon-jong compared with those of control group. Pal-pung and Hyen-jong showed significant decrease respectively.
3. White blood cell count was decreased significantly in the groups of complex of Pal-pung and Hyeon-jong, Pal-pung, and Hyeon-jong respectively compared with those on control group.
4. Serum uric acid was decreased most significantly in the groups of complex of Pal-pung and Hyeon-jong compared with those of control group. Hyeon-jong and Pal-pung showed significant decrease respectively.
5. Serum creatinine was decreased most significantly in the groups of complex of Pal-pang and Hyeon-jong, Pal-pung respectively compared with those of control group. Hyeon-jong showed significant decrease.
According to the above results, bloodletting was effective on the gout induced by microcrystalline sodium urate and it is suggested that bloodletting could be recommended for the treament of gout and similar diseases as well in clinics.
